Acclaimed poet Sadiyah Bashir, in residence this spring as part of Duke Performances’ ongoing Building Bridges: Muslims in America series, sits down with Rashida James-Saadiya (Sapelo Square) for a virtual lunchtime conversation.

Sadiyah Bashir is a freelance writer and poet. Her poetry has been showcased on various media such as: Al-Jazeera, Apple, and UNICEF. Her first self-published book entitled Seven explores trauma and triumph through the lens of Black Muslim womanhood.

Rashida James-Saadiya is a visual artist, writer, and cultural educator invested in transforming social perceptions through creative literature. Her work explores migration, identity, and the transmission of spirituality through poetry and song amongst Muslim women in West Africa and the American South.
