Multi-platinum-selling Nashville singer-songwriter Ben Folds kicks off his 2015 global tour with yMusic at Duke Performances before going on to Bonnaroo and other destinations across the United States and around the world. Folds, a native North Carolinian known for lyrical piano-pop with hummable melodies, is no stranger to indie-classical crossover, having performed his own piano concerto and orchestrations of his greatest hits with symphony orchestras across the nation.

New York sextet and Duke University artists-in-residence yMusic combine “all the prestige and virtuosity of classical music degrees with all the attitude and energy of an indie rock band” (Paste Magazine). They thrive comfortably in both spheres, bringing classical polish to indie rock artists from Sufjan Stevens to Dirty Projectors (and now Ben Folds!) and indie rock fire to contemporary classical composers from Gabriel Kahane to Nico Muhly.

This concert will feature material from Folds’ new album with yMusic, slated for release this spring, with new pop songs by Folds recorded and arranged in collaboration with yMusic. Recorded in New York, Los Angeles, and Folds’ own historic RCA Studio A in Nashville, the album is marked by its forward-thinking studio craft and creative spontaneity.

Note: 25% Pick-Four or More, $15 ages 30 & under, and 15% Duke Employee discounts are not valid for this special presentation. There are limited Duke student tickets available.
