South African classical guitarist Derek Gripper — known for transcribing the intricate works of Malian kora master Toumani Diabaté for six-string guitar — kicks off Duke Performances’ second annual Black Atlantic festival with a keynote exploring the linkages between the musical and cultural traditions of West Africa and the Caribbean.
