JACK Quartet, whose members The Boston Globe hailed as “the superheroes of the new music world,” returns for the second year of its two-year residency at Duke, bookended by a pair of sensational performances — the first, at the Durham Fruit and Produce Company, featuring a new work by Austrian composer Georg Friedrich Haas, played entirely in the dark; the second, at Baldwin Auditorium, part of a rare double-bill with new music powerhouse sextet yMusic.
During each of its three visits for 2018/2019, the ensemble will be reading, workshopping, and recording new music by graduate students in Duke’s composition program as part of a joint venture between Duke Performances and the Department of Music, now in its ninth year. The members of JACK will also lead a master class with Duke undergraduates and participate in class visits and conversations across campus.
